Sophia participates in Speech and Debate and Key Club, runs Cross country, and is the president of her school’s Model UN. Sophia is excited to experience the opportunity to adapt to a new culture in Brazil, especially to develop her skills in establishing effective relationships and learning a new language. For her action project, Sophia would like to organize an event to raise awareness and funds for educating girls internationally; she would also like to promote education in Tulsa through tutoring and fun activities.

Joseph plays Soccer for the Tulsa Soccer Club as well as for his High School team. He has hosted several students from the Brazil Youth Ambassadors program, and is really excited to experience the program as a participant himself. For his action project, Joseph wants to hold a donation drive to collect sporting equipment for local young people. He hopes to show youth in his community the benefits of an active & healthy lifestyle outdoors rather than spending too much time inside playing video games.

Collin is outgoing, friendly and flexible; he plays soccer and is in the National Honors Society. Collin has had the opportunity to host 5 Brazilian Youth Ambassadors over the last few years, and is excited to visit their country and have a reciprocal experience. For his action project, Collin would like to hold open soccer practices for young children to learn the fundamentals of soccer and to encourage a healthy and active lifestyle for young people.

Emma plays the cello, runs with her school’s Track and Cross Country teams, and volunteers at her old elementary school; she also makes and sells jewelry through her own business “Beading Beauties”. Emma is excited to try new things, and make the very most out of this program. For her action project, she wants to develop interactive presentations about the Youth Ambassadors program and her experiences in Brazil to share with teens in her community and encourage them to travel and develop their own global awareness.

Danery is a soccer player and also participates in the Drama Club, Seavibe, and the Beta Club. He is excited to learn Portuguese and as much Brazilian culture as possible – especially the dance! For his action project, Danery would like to put on a benefit concert and/or auction to raise funds for homeless young people in his community.

Zoe is a soccer player, and participates in a program called ‘Communities in School’. She is excited to travel to Brazil, and hopes that this will be the first of many places all over the world where she will visit. For her action project, Zoe wants to teach Brazilian cooking classes in her community; she also wants to share her program experiences with local middle school students, to show them the value of studying abroad.

Sicily is excited to learn about Brazilian culture and share what she’s learned with her friends and family in Bozeman. She is an actor, plays soccer, and is a member of the Bozeman Youth Initiative as well. For her action project, Sicily would like to hold meetings with adults and teenagers in Bozeman to encourage interaction between generations and to create a space for relationships and respect to be built.

TJ plays baseball, is on the Student Council, is a BTW Ambassador, and participates in the Spanish Club. He is excited to participate in the Youth Ambassadors program because he believes it will help him to develop his understanding and appreciation of the world. For his action project, TJ would like to give presentations all around his community to share the importance of understanding the world outside of ours, and encouraging people to be open to other cultures and experiences.

Makenzi plays the guitar and volunteers at a local food bank. She is excited to build meaningful relationships with other Youth Ambassadors as well as the Brazilians that she will meet. For her action project, Makenzi wants to share her experiences from Brazil with Elementary school children in her community. She hopes that meeting with them and sharing her experiences will encourage them to engage in their community with leadership and volunteer programs.

Claire is an upbeat, easygoing and optimistic person. She is on the board of directors for a youth-led organization called Bozeman Youth Initiative, and also participates in National Honors Society and Peer Mediation. Claire has played the piano for 10 years. She hopes that traveling to Brazil will help her to develop a new perspective on life in the United States. For her action project, Claire wants to create a program that puts on career planning workshops for high school students.

Jeff is a Language Arts teacher – he also coaches soccer and co-leads a local sports tournament company. He has had the opportunity to travel quite a bit, including living in Japan and Italy; Jeff has had the experience of being a representative of the USA in a foreign country, and is excited to be a resource to the YAs as they experience this for themselves. Jeff is also looking forward to being a support to the Youth Ambassadors as they work on their action plans; he would like to create an online forum to offer an opportunity for the YAs to work together, share ideas and frustrations, and continue to feel a part of the program community.

Kirstin works for World Learning in their Washington DC office. She had the opportunity to live in both Japan and Mexico during different times in her life; besides living abroad, Kirstin has traveled a great deal for both work and fun, but has never been to Brazil before. Kirstin loves to cook, and is excited to get the opportunity to learn how to cook delicious Brazilian food! She is also excited to see the Brazilian YA alumni in their home country.
